Ruins of Santo Domingo

Ruins of Santo Domingo

The house looks huge, the chimney suggests its not just an ordinary house -- as far as the Philippines is concerned. It probably took a fortune to build this structure not so long ago. But then again, there is this thing we call "calculated risks". Mayon's summit behind the ruins seems to chillingly whisper in the quiet wind : "I'm the boss around here, always include me in your calculation."

The place looks eerie and equally haunting. While the ruins of Cagsawa is closer to Legazpi city, more photographed and more famous, the ruins around Santo Domingo shows a lot of Mt. Mayon's destructive power. Its perfect cone, its "seven wonders of the world" tag, its beauty, time and time again tries to hide its monstrous side. After all, this is the most active volcano in the Philippines.

By the way, to those who flickr mailed me regarding the size of that volcano, here's a few facts that you can relate to. The summit is around 2.5 kilometers above the ground. This house is 9 kilometers from the summit.
