Mahidolia mystacina

Mahidolia mystacina

I got a number of shots of this rather rare shrimp goby. The fish lives in symbiosis with an alpheid shrimp, which digs a burrow for shared use. The goby acts as a watch man.

This individual has an unusual coloration, with yellow pelvic fins.

This goby is found in really silty areas, with not too many corals around. In Bolinao I have seen them from 11 to 20 meters. The water temperature at these spots is ~ 29C.
