St. John's Lutheran Church

St. John's Lutheran Church in St. Donatus was originally a log cabin built in 1854, the a stone building built in 1864, and finally this brick twin-spired church built in 1919. The town of St. Donatus was founded primarily by Catholic Luxembourgers, and so the German emigrants built their Lutheran church on the other side of a valley.

On Labor Day, we took a drive through Jackson County, Iowa on a clear, blue morning primarily to take some photos of the picturesque old, small-town churches.
