A Painted Advertisement Sign For Money Change Depicting Banknotes, Boorama, Somaliland

BOORAMA, SOMALILAND - NOVEMBER 28: money change advertisement, Somaliland is a former Somali province that declared independence shortly after the Somali Civil War, in the early 1990’s, but is not internationally recognized yet, on November 28, 2011 in Boorama, Somaliland. Boorama is the capital of the northern province of Somalia. About 300.000 people live in the city, among great historical ruins. These ruins date from various historical periods, precisely from the 12th to the 18th century. Ties have been made with China or even with Arabic sultanates, proved archeologists by finding items such as porcelain or coins.
Control of the city is currently under a dispute opposing Somaliland, which is a self-declared republic wanting autonomy from Somalia, and Awdalland, which is also seeking autonomy. But the city is still peacefully developing, sheltering secondary schools, a local university and an American one. It even has its own airport, the only in the area, and major hotels.
Very much like Sheikh and even Burao, it is quite hilly and also gets what is considered to be a good amount of water in its region. Bushes and trees growing in the mountain are home to a lot of wildlife species, like gazelles and camels.
