Press Conference on Humanitarian Crises in N.E. Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Yemen
Secretary-General António Guterres (centre on dais) addressed a press conference on looming humanitarian crises in four countries: South Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, and north-east Nigeria. More than 20 million people in these countries face the prospect of famine, risk of famine or starvation in the next six months. Joining the Secretary-General in briefing reporters were: Helen Clark (left on dais), Administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP); Stephen O'Brien (right on dais), Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator; and Ertharin Cousin (speaking via video teleconference), Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP).
