LAAS GEEL SITE, SOMALILAND - NOVEMBER 30: Landscape of the Laas Geel ares, backside of a man Walking, Somaliland is a former Somali province that declared independence shortly after the Somali Civil War, in the early 1990’s, but is not internationally recognized yet, on November 30, 2011 in Laas Geel Site, Somaliland. Laas Gaal or Laas Geel is a complex of caves and rock shelters in Somaliland. Famous for their rock art, the caves are located not far from Hargeisa, and contain some of the earliest known cave paintings in Africa. Laas Gaal's rock art is estimated to date back to somewhere between 9,000–8,000 and 3,000 BCE.
