Julio-Claudians in Volaterrae VIII

Julio-Claudians in Volaterrae VIII

The emperor Tiberius. Looking at this portrait, I think the great Tacitus was quite right about Tiberius.
Above the crypt of the theater there was a large terrace decorated, at the center, with three esedra containing statues of the emperors, to whom the theater was obviously dedicated. These sculptures were to be used for the imperial worship.
Heads of the statue depicting Augustus, his wife Livia, and Tiberius have been found during the excavations of the theater on 1851.
