Rhyolitic tuff cones (Late Pleistocene; China Hat & China Cap, Central Dome Field, Idaho, USA)

Left: China Hat volcanic center
Right: China Cap volcanic center

These small volcanoes erupted rhyolitic tephra during the Late Pleistocene, resulting in "tuff cones". Such structures are produced by eruptions that result as rising magma encounters groundwater.

Locality: China Hat & China Cap, just south of Blackfoot Reservoir & western side of Route 34, Caribou County, southeastern Idaho, USA
