small votive statues above Okafuto shrine

Maybe a dozen statues, each about 30-35 cm in height, are resting on niches and ledges of this rock face. The one nearest to the lens is at the lower left corner. In the distance, near the middle of the right edge of the photo is one lit by beams of sunlight.

The large Okafuto Shinto Shrine is perhaps 60 or 70 meters lower down the mountain where the slope meets the flat ground. Earthquakes are relatively rare on this west facing part of Honshu, but still there will be occasional ground shaking and so these seemingly unanchored statues would have to be tended and righted or replaced should they tumble or break.
