2019 - HAL Alaska Cruise - 29 - Glacier Bay - 4 - Johns Hopkins Glacier

ms Noordam visited two Glacier Bay glaciers. The first one, Johns Hopkins.
Took a kazillion photos but will post two from each.

This would be the 200 foot high glacier face at the water line.

The glacier flows down the main valley at 3,000 feet per year, or about 8 feet per day.

It is the only advancing tidewater glacier of the Fairweather Range.

The black material in the ice is called moraine, soil and rock the glacier has scraped off the surrounding mountains as it makes its way to the terminus at the water’s edge.
