There are Moments When Timing is Everything (Mammoth Cave National Park)

Going to this location in Mammoth Cave National Park was fortuitous in timing as I'd only come across a few days prior to heading out on my trip this blog post from QT Luong on "Photographing Wet Places in a Dry Land, Mammoth Cave National Park" (www.terragalleria.com/blog/photographing-watery-places-in...). The beauty of the pond with the trees and water reflections...most definitely a place to visit and see what I might capture. It was from this pier extension along the board walk that I found one location where I really felt blessed to soak in. With only the stirring of occasion breeze blowing through the trees and some insect noises, it was just me saying how beautiful this was was shuffling about to set up my tripod. In metering this image, I had my Nikon SLR camera set up in Manual mode and then found that mean shutter speed to not blow any highlights in the distant clouds while later being able to bring out the nearby shadowed areas of the forest around me. I finished up post-processing work in Capture NX2 by adding a few CEP filters (Low Key, Polarization and Graduated Neutral Density) for the final image.
