Super Moon-Rise January 2018

Super Moon-Rise January 2018

2018 got off to a great start with its largest "super moon" rise on January 1. It'll repeat the show with a "blue moon" super moon rise on January 31. But in North America the biggest show on that day will be the total lunar eclipse as the moon approaches the opposite horizon before dawn. There will be interesting opportunities up and down the West Coast, wherever the cloud cover enables a decent view of the moon.

The camera and lens were left in place for the shots; nothing was moved, resized or pasted out of place from exactly where it occurred (I'm not a fan of faked "big moon " shots).

The images were pre-processed in Adobe Lightroom, then three exposures for each moon shot were combined in Photomatix HDR software. The result was post-processed in Lightroom and Nik Silver Efex for the black and white conversion. The composite was made using StarStaX stacking software. No Photoshop, no cut-and-paste operations were involved at any point.
