These Nian Guo (on the left) are from the Jaya Palace Restaurant. They have been steamed and dipped in coconut shavings, so can be considered a Malaysianized version.
(Shown here with sesame cake; on the right).

Nianguo is the almost compulsory desert for a Lunar New Year meal. It is prepared from glutinous rice and traditionally very sweet and sticky.
