NAeL Minas Gerais (A11) was the first Brazilian aircraft carrier. She was in service between 1960 and 2001, and scrapped on a beach in India in 2004.
She ship was the last of the Colossus-class. Launched by Swan Hunter (England) as HMS Vengeance in February 1944, she was completed too late to see action in WW2 in Europe and Asia.
After the war HMS Vengeance (R71) was operated by the Royal Navy and served briefly in the Australian Navy from 1952 to 1955. After a mayor refit in The Netherlands she sailed to her new owner, the Brazilian Navy.
In October 1996 I sailed on the Minas Gerais for one week. The ship was a working museum, even the furniture was from the 1950s. Lots of wood and copper.
I took the photo from an UH-50 Esquilo (AS350 Écureuil built by Helibras).
