The building now known as Gängtappen was designed by Paul Hedqvist (1895-1977), a prolific modernist architect, It opened in 1958 to serve as headquarters for the Malmö shipyard company Kockums and was then officially known as Kockumshuset. After Kockum was acquired by Thyssen Krupp, the company was downsized, sold the building and eventually moved out entirely. It is now an office building owned by a real estate developer and hosting various businesses. Some sources indicate that renovations of the facade over the years have altered its original 1950's style.
