Salsomaggiore, Italy, Summer 2019.

Testing Ilford Delta 400 film in Moersch Finol developer.
Shot with a Fujifilm GA645Zi film camera.

Exposed EI 620, 1/500s F 11.
Developed in Moersch Finol 1+75 distilled water, 23 minutes at 22°C, first minute constant agitation then 2 inversions every 30 seconds.
Fixed in Moersch ATS alcaline fixer diluted 1+10 to preserve the stain, 6 minutes, first minute constant agitation then 2 inversions every 30 seconds.
Washed in flowing tap water for 7 minutes.
Final wash in Tetenal Mirasol 1+40 distilled water.

I was testing the behaviour of Ilford Delta 400 in Moersch Finol developer at reduced agitation (20s->30s) and the result is about 1 stop underdevelopment.
This frame though was spot on due to overxposure.

Delta 400 seems to need a very strict agitation rythm to exploit the full EI 620 rating in Finol... no shortcuts allowed!
It's still the best film/dev combo for speed, with a true EI 620 rating based on Zone 1 density measurement.
It can be pushed 1 stop with good results when full shadow details are not critical and good midtones separation is required (i.e. available light photography at night).
Grain is much better than classic speed combos like Tri-X and Diafine.

This frame prints well in the darkroom with diffusion head and grade 2 paper, holds its own even in 10x enlargment.
I used it to assess the effect of Anti Newton Rings glass on print sharpness: the loss of sharpness at 10x is impressive, something to consider in a wet print workflow.

Scanned to true optical 4500dpi with a custom macro setup, APO Rodagon 75mm F4 lens at 1:1.4 ratio, Sony A7S full frame camera, 21 frames stitched together.

Wet mounting could improve the grain a lot but I'm still testing with different fluids.

No sharpening or noise reduction applied.
Original file available.

Impressive performance from this film/developer combo at true EI 620.
