El Sod and its salt

The village of El Sod (south of Dublock and Yabelo) lies next to a volcanic crater whose lake (aka the House of Salt) is harvested for the salt contained in its black waters. Local men dive for salt, scraping it off the lake floor, and then, aided by donkeys, carry the salt up and out of the crater. Most of the salt is I believe now used for livestock.
