Raimundo de Madrazo y Garreta (1841-1920) - Portrait of a girl (ca. 1875). In the collection of the Museu Nacional Grão Vasco, Viseu.

The museum was created in 1916 for the main purpose of preserving and promoting the artistic heritage of the Viseu region, specifically the work of painter Vasco Fernandes (ca. 1475-1542), known as Grão Vasco [the Great Vasco] and the work of his workshop, mostly religious subjects commissioned by the clergy. But from time to time, those in charge of managing the collection could not resist straying a bit from the Museum's mission - as in the case of the purchase in 1927 of this compelling portrait of a girl painted by a Spanish artist.
