southeast of Sabae city center, new construction

Bicycling west along this road leading away from the Naka-shinjo Shinto shrine, this scene unfolded: a middle-aged or elderly person on the right doing labor intensive harvest season drying in preparation for the winter, like generations before her. On the left and also barely visible beyond the seated woman there are scaffoldings set up to aid the house construction. Another 50-60 meters ahead is another structure, looking more like office or commercial space, rather than residential in character. So the process of filling in the carefully built rice paddies in order to hold foundation cement work and houses or offices still goes on: rather than to raze a building and replacing with new construction, the vacant or decrepit property remains and new construction uses the productive agricultural land instead.
