Unlike most all of the other media for creative expression, fired clay and ceramic is so durable that its pieces, even if shattered, will persist as long as the Earth. Metals may corrode and combine with other material, or may melt in the presence of great heat. Fabric, paper, photo ink, wood can be burned up or will decompose with exposure to light, water, wind and the many living creatures and micro-organisms. But pottery (and glasswork) remain in finished form forever, time travelers to faraway civilization as messenger from the time and hands of their making.
