On paper, Rosal has an awful lot of heritage. The place has a variety of habitations dating back a few thousand years from a souterrain to the remains of croft buildings in the 19th Century.

In the face of all the ruination, I was unsure what to make of the Forestry Commission's own visitor signage boards also being in a rather fallen state.

The latest episode in the area's history was the Highland Clearances, the township being harshly evicted in 1814 to make way for sheep.

It's interesting to note that, while displacing people for the sake of supposed profit is reprehensible abusive behaviour, even though the sheep never did prove profitable (least of all for the landscape itself), they still remain.
