On the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Granezza, the Municipalities of Asiago, Veneto, Italy, Lusiana Conco, Italy, and Lugo di Vicenza held joint ceremonies at Mount Corno on the Asiago Plateau Sept 1, 2019.
Piana di Granezza was the theatre of the bloodiest battle of the Resistance in the Vicenza's territory. The traditional commemoration honors the memory of the 250 Fallen of the Alpine Division “Monte Ortigara”, and local partisans killed between 6 and 7 September 1944.
Representing the Vicenza Military Community was U.S. Army Garrison Italy Lt. Col. (Chaplain) David A. Schnarr, who honored the invitation of Mayor Loris Dalla Costa. In attendance also Bortolo Villanova, 99 years old, native of the town of Lusiana, and only living survivor of the battle.
