The lower left corner shows part of the two course electric fence that separates the Hino shrine shown earlier in the panorama and the hillside worship spots higher up. The electrified fencing is meant to keep mountain creatures away from the hamlet of Kita Hino, the vegetable gardens and rice paddies. Bears, boar, deer, monkeys, and tanuki (raccoon dogs) have survived the milder winters in increasing numbers, leading to more conflicts between people and these animals.
