A certain delight in the color, shape, presentation and packaging of food at all price ranges is evident in Japan. But in some restaurants this visual aspect is a big part of the experience, not just integral to the treat, but foregrounded. Since it began in 1993, the menu and style at this small restaurant, Panier, has taken inspiration and some ingredients from French, Spanish, or Italian cuisine. This plate is one of 3-4 courses served, never overwhelming in portion size or strong smell or taste. All is well in proportion and on special occasions the result is very pleasing, indeed. Of the several courses served in this small restaurant this one featured three tasty combinations of food: roasted pepper and beef on the left, in the center roasted tomato, shrimp and potato, and to the right risotto in mushroom cap, topped by a scallop in sauce
