Very sensibly the campaign frenzy of Japan is concentrated in a short period leading up to voting day, this time on Sunday, October 22. The two people running for mayor are most visible and vocal between 9 a.m. and 7 or 8 p.m. with their roof-mounted loudspeakers blasting as their team drives the streets of the city limits. The contenders for prefecture and national assemblies have wider boundaries to cover, so there is much less presence in any given location, compared to the two mayoral candidates. Other years the city's assembly of 16 councilors is elected and then there really are a lot of voices broadcast from loudspeakers.
