Shiprock Panorama 2018

Shiprock Panorama 2018

We headed out from our hotel in Farmington tonight, caught some fast food on the way out of town, and drove the bumpy dirt roads in our rented pickup out to Shiprock, New Mexico. We thought we had left plenty of time, but the light was just right as we arrived and I set up my camera and tripod for some panorama photos.
.

It was still warm (78F), the wind was almost still, the only sound was coyotes in the distance. The light was changing noticeably every five minutes.
.
When it was finally truly twilight, we headed back to Farmington along a slightly shorter dirt road to the highway. A thousand bumps later, we found that there was a gate by the highway. It was closed (but not locked!) and we quickly scooted through and closed the gate behind us.
.
Shiprock is a pretty magical place. The remains of an old volcano, it's easy to see why it is sacred to the local Navajo, perhaps sacred to us all.
