A cheery church in Virginia City, Nevada, just a block or so from the infamous and less cheery Bucket of a Blood Saloon. The gold and silver rush is over, and the pursuit of earthly riches, has for the most part moved elsewhere, but I guess heavenly ones are still available.
Virginia City was once, one of the most prosperous towns in the USA. Samuel Clemens came out west and worked as a miner on the Comstock Lode, before switching jobs and working for a friend on the local newspaper. It was in this job and in Virginia city that he first used the pen name, Mark Twain.
