Henry II King of France - Francois Clouet
Portrait of Henry II, King of France, by François Clouet, on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.
This oil on canvas painting dates to about 1547. It is 75.5 inches high and 41.3 inches wide. It is in the collection of the Palazzo Pitti, a former palace turned museum in Florence, Italy.
Clouet was trained by his father and succeeded as "painter and valet of the chamber" Francis I in 1540/41. He served Henry II after the death of Francis in 1547, but he found more patronage from Catherine de Médicis, who collected his portrait drawings.
