Jacobijnenstraat, Haarlem, Netherlands - 5636

The Jacobijne street is located in the center of Haarlem. The street is named after the inhabitants of the monastery that bordered on it: the monastery of the Dominicans or Predikheren or Jacobins.
The houses on number 1 and 3 with stepped gables date from 1662.
The pilot bakery of the Haarlem bakers' guild was located at the Jacobijnestraat 1 with the Haarlem bread and flour factory (Dutch: Brood en Meelfabriek). On the engraving of P.H. Horstok from 1808 you see both this bakery (left), and the Vergulde Salm - recognizable by the facing brick - on Jacobijnestraat 3 (right). This engraving was processed in 1808 in a print with allegories and representations from the baker's company.
