Photograph of an unearthed mass grave at Choeung Ek

Here is a photo of the mass grave seen above immediately after it was opened up and the bodies exhumed. The site was mostly a fruit orchard with a small portion of it being an ancient Chinese graveyard. A small Chinese shrine had existed at the site where the Chinese paid respects to the dead before their internment, but with the Khmer Rouge's lopsided and fanatic ideologies, which banned religion, that temple was destroyed by the misguided zealots.
