Tenshu & Sakura

The history of Kakegawa Castle dates back to 1469 when the original castle was built in what was then Tottomi Province. After the Battle of Okehazama the Imagawa no longer controlled the area as it passed to Takeda Shingen and Tokugawa Ieyasu. After a period of time under control of Hideyoshi, the Tokugawa took over once again. The castle grounds were more recently used as government offices, but initiatives to restore the main keep and other structures have taken place since the mid-1990's.
