Metering a Forest and Low Clouds Moving Across a Mountainside (North Cascades National Park Service Complex)

Another image captured while standing on a bridge over the Skagit River and looking to the west. With the overcast skies and low clouds (along with off and on rain), I found using manual mode much more convenient and consistent when it came to metering the settings in the North Cascades mountains of Washington. Nearby were an evergreen forest that had a much brighter appearance then the mountainsides and ridges off in the distance. The clouds then had an even brighter appearance, so metering properly with this apparent large dynamic range seemed appropriate. I was then able to use control points and color control points in Capture NX2 for the final image.

Captured in the Ross Lake National Recreation Area of North Cascades National Park Service Complex.
