Jade is not only green- I loved the honey colour

Jade is not only green- I loved the honey colour and even bought myself a small artifact made from honey coloured jade. Here, a volunteer shows me a display of rings, each one with a jade stone of a different colour. All the items shown here are actually of a variety of jade called jadeite, which comes in many colour variations like blue, brown, red, black, dark green, lavender, and honey/ amber. Of all these, jadeite is rarer, documented in fewer than 12 places worldwide. Translucent emerald-green jadeite is the most prized variety of jadeite, both historically and today. Nephrite the other type of jade is found only in a creamy white form, known in China as mutton fat jade, and has always been a symbol of purity and royalty in that country. Of course, nephrite is also found rarely in a variety of light green shades, but never in the fabulous colours of jadeite. (Chiang Mai, north Thailand, Oct. 2018)
