Gorgeous jade Buddhas in the reception of the jade factory in Chiang Mai

Gorgeous jade Buddhas at the entrance to the jade factory in Chiang Mai. Yes, the white one is jade too. I learnt today that the famous ‘jade’ green, is actually jadeite, which also comes in other colors like deep green, apple (light green), honey, yellow, lavender, brown, white and black, each color symbolic of something. Nephrite or white jade is the older of the lot, and is usually found in a creamy white form (known in China as mutton fat jade). So here, the green Buddha is jadite while the white one is nephrite. Being pure white, neprite was most common in China as it was associated with purity and royalty. The green jadeite is comparatively new, meaning it was imported into China only circa the 1800s.
