lining up, protest march

Normally a week advance notice is required to obtain permission and police escort of public demonstrations. By default, in almost all cases the requests are approved. In this case the timing was compressed because the city council meeting schedule was made on short notice and the risk of accelerating the destruction of the castle rampart seemed to warrant a quicker citizen response. Happily the police were able to comply and everything came together favorably, even the cool dryer windy weather to break the humid, motionless summer air earlier. This photo shows the marchers forming into three lines under the direction of the police and the megaphone leader, who himself has led or experienced other street marches.
