Tionesta Research Natural Area (Revisited) (3)

Pipeline swath within the Tionesta Research Natural Area of Allegheny National Forest, McKean County.

The view here looks north into the valley of East Fork Run.

The swath provides access to the natural area from Forest Road 443. The pipeline was laid around 1910—many years before the federal government's purchase of the surface rights—and the swath was widened in the 1940s. Active gas wells are still present. Old-growth trees border both sides of the swath from Forest Road 443 to West Fork Run.
