I Made It...and What a Freaking Amazing View It Was!

Yes, that was pretty much the two thoughts that were on my mind when I finally hiked and made my way to the South Rim and took in these views. After so many miles and hours of hiking and mountainsides of the Chisos Mountains, I was a little on the tired side but quite excited to see you finally these views. This is looking to east across the Chihuahuan Desert in Big Bend National Park to the Sierra del Carmen mountains far off in Mexico. Looking closely one can even see the distinct peak of Pico de Cerda.

To the image, I knew trying to capture anything of the mountain peaks might flatten them and leave an image with a less than amazing feel. Given the blue skies above (and what I might consider negative space), I decided to angle my SLR camera slightly downward, hoping to minimize that flattening look and capture a view looking across this portion of the South Rim and then to the mountains off in the distance. If you're interested in a more immersive feel to this location, here is a photo sphere I captured with my iPhone camera at this same spot (goo.gl/maps/DiDk6yn1tJu). One only needs to imagine the wind blowing, big eyes to take in this setting and a big smile!
