Major chromatic aberration / distortion or achromatism

Major chromatic aberration / distortion or achromatism

First, I'll use the (invalid) excuse that I was in a rush when I shot this. I was a part of a large group touring the historic square in downtown Prescott, AZ. It was late, we had been running non-stop since early morning. They were tired of waiting for me.

This was shot with a D90 using a Nikkor 35 1.8 DX lens wide open. I didn't have a tripod handy and the lens is not equipped with VR so I propped against a tree and shot with wide open aperture, something you should never do in high contrast situations.

A flash would have helped but I really wanted to preserve the effect of the natural lighting.

A smaller aperture would have minimized distortion but would have increased shutter speed. As you can see the shutter speed even at this setting was a bit too long which resulted in some minor blur.

I'm sure a pro (with more time) could have nailed it. Oh well. Lessons learned.
