Les petits GI's et certains de leur famille ont poste donc des messages: J'ai appris que Djibouti a des dizaines d'orphelinats, et d'une pauvrete excecrable et bien sur on nous appelle "skinnies",

The interfaith chapel on Camp Lemonier, Djibouti, organizes trips for service members to local orphanages so they can lend a helping hand to the orphans living here and spend their time doing something fun and worthwhile. “It sounded like the perfect way to exercise my own faith by extending love and hope to the poor and hurting,” said U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Tyler Parris. Parris visits two orphanages in the area to, “see poverty that I have never even imagined, and for a time to lift the burden from those who would feed the babies or mind the children,” he said.
Celui la est choquant, c une gars (marine?) qui raconte ses premiers jours a djibouti:
Ok going to Djbouti... it had been 2 weeks and a half since the last time I had touch land...Man this place was full of Africans (understatement)....its just that it was million and million of people and the africans are not like the regular african american they are skinny, smaller and really nasty ( they use to defecate in the same ship, and leave it thre... which sucks for us) and specially for the lower ranking people (me and the apprenticess)... So the first day at Africa I couln´t get out becuase guess what I had the first watch!! so after 12 hours of work I slept for 4 and woke up for 8 straight hours from midninght to 8 in the morning ufff! what a long day!
Djibouti was an old French colony which made everything expensive.... the city used to be pretty bust since independence everything was runned down!....another thing EVERYTHING is EXPENSIVE.... I mean like NY Expensive beers for 5 dollars.... and I must say almost every establishment excpet for those for the tourist places are nasty! the bars are horehouses and it sucsk you know! some girls are pretty and hot but others are like damm you stink! but overall it sucks getting bugged! sometimes you just wanna have a beer without having peole annoy the shit out of you! filipino filipino wanna @!#$y fcuky! damm it wome I just wanna have a beer....
Poverty is huge.... soon as you get out of the port 19 kids will approach you and ask you for money and like you run and they run. People are ingenous too... they will drink water bottles and re fill them and closed them and try to seel them as new! (like you woulnd{t notice the broken seal).... the weather is increadibly hot! i go outside to work for 5 minutes and I was like soaking wet!
My final thoughts! djibouti pizza is one of the best I have ever had in the world (beliee me)
Intersting enough always negotiate!
Sea story:....Well we took a cab back to the port and the guy was charging us more than we were suppose too... while we refused we just walk out of the cab and started walking to the gate.... hey suddenly like 15 skinnies where running at us... the third engineer and me just started sprinting.... while one of the skinnies caught one of the apprentinces.... he was like let me go let me go or i{ll bring my army! then he push him and the guy just fell.... once in the port! the policeman jsut stopped me and like u going nowehere inside they had guns and stuff so guess what... I surrender! they made us wait outside for like 1 hour until the captain made it back to save our asses!!.... what an experience for the 1st day!
