A soldier's salary in Somaliland is 75 dollars. President Silanyo increased it a bit after he took the office in 2010. But 75 dollars is nothing to die for. It is 2.5 dollars per day for a family of 5 people! it is too meager to consider it a salary...at the same time, they send that soldier to war just for the sake of defending someone there in Hargueissa. The situation is worse on the other side. Those who fight are either villagers or nomads. They don't even get salaries or bonuses. They get nothing just bullets on their chests and wounds on their skinny bodies. Unfortunately, both teams are Somalis. A Somali's fate is to "Kill" or "Get killed". When he tries to flee that hell or get out of it, he dies in oceans, deserts... or someone there on his way, abuses him.
What can A Somali do? he has no choice. I mean an ordinary Somali has no other choice rather being smashed like a potato. He has no life, no dignity, no future...nothing except death or despair.
A new episode of "Death and despair movie" has just started in Somaliland.
Let those love peace mourn forever. Let those who love war, rejoice and enjoy.

Their greeting was "Nabad ma sheegteen?" or "Ma nabad baa?!". They never started like "How are you?" or "How is your family or relatives?". They had something more important than all. It was Nabad ¨Peace"
So, "Good morning" was "Nabad ma ku barideen?" which literally means "Did you spend your night in peace?"
"Good afternoon" for our ancestors was "Ma oosheen?! nabad ma oosheen?" which means "Did you stay your day in peace?!"
And in the evening, they greeted one another by saying "Ma soo nabad hoyateen?!" "Have you come back to your huts in peace?!"
Peace meant everything for them. Without peace, there was no life. That was why they survived.
Likewise, our region is in dire need for peace and stability...

War is not natural; it is a man-made tool. It is a concept that was created by man himself because there is an evil entity in his actions. Man is greedy. He is selfish. He is wild. he is not different from a lion or an ant-eater if he does no rules to follow. Nobody was born as a murderer. It is the environment. We get brainwashed to love some people or hate others. Unfortunately, some of us become mere CDs. They become mirrors that reflect someone else's shadow. They follow others blindly. In our region, a small number of people (Politicians, clergymen...) are taking decisions in our names. They are the ones who wage wars. They are the ones who bring weapons or allow others to smuggle firearms into our region.
This must stop. We should have other priorities rather than war...

I am optimistic at least. I think we will listen to the voice of sound reasoning and logic one day to come together as citizens of Horn of Africa and set a good example for others instead of killing one another.
At least, we long for some sort of restorative justice for victims of these conflicts and then we should move forward to our countries. Those who abuse or violate human rights must face justice either in the ICC or in their countries. In Somalia, for example, so many crimes against humanity have taken place for the last 20 years. It is high time to bring charges against those who were responsible...
We cannot always rely on the International Community and ask them for help whatever it is. It is our duty to do our work properly to restore peace and stabiltiy in Somalia and put an end to hostilities among nations. Each and every citizen of IGAD members, has the right to stand for his right in order to have basic needs of a decent life. We, citizens of Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Kenya, Uganda, North Sudan and South Sudan, have the right to live in peace. We have the right to have jobs, houses, electricity, clean water, schools for our kids, hospitals...etc

As we believe in God, we say our father Adam and his wife Eve disobeyed God when they ate from the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden. that disobience resulted in shame and fear. They found out they were naked and for that reason, they were ashamed. Some people often accuse women of being the main reason for not following God's orders but I think in general, men are more evil than women.
Most of those trade in arms in our region are men. THose who create conflicts are men. Those who lead gangs or death squads are men. Those who rape or rob wealth from our banks through corruption are men.
On the other, there are good people; men and women. They love peace. They fight for human rights. They give refuge and food to those who get persecuted or abused...
We have two different worlds. One world is to destroy and dominate. The other one is to build and share...
All human beings should ask themselves to which world they belong.

Hi King,
You are right that is plain truth. Throughout human history and in all nations, those who created wars and all evil that result from war are men. However, Men are not more evil that women, but they are more prone to evil beause they are more UNCONSCIOUS that women generally. See what happened throughtout human evolution is that the ego( that unconscious part of us which is the real pathological cause) developed more and got a stronger hold on men than women. Women are naturally closer to the angelic world and God, and therefore they do not tend to be easily manipulated by the evil forces and the ego.
However in modern times, more and more women wanted to copy men in their quest for power and greed in accessing positions of power in the institution of marriage or even politics ( which is absolutly stupid in my opinion) and they therefore became evenly unconscious despite their natural advantage of being more conscious than men. So you could say that most of world population is in a sorry state nowadays: men and women are equally unconscious and therefore more prone to evil and destructive choices. That is why there is more evil men and women than good men and women now in the world. And unconscious people destroy EVERYTHING around them in the name of their ego: they destroy their families, marriages, societies, nations and the whole planet with it. They cause pain and suffering everywhere they are. In fact it is said in the sufi tradition that the human ego is 70 times more powerful than Ibliis himself! That is how much the human ego is dangerous.
Fortunalty there still exist some good people on the planet and those are my favourite people to be with. What is even more delightful is to be with a good conscious man, because those are indeed VERY rare. This is why I personnaly love and identify with spiritual leaders ( great philosophers, sufi masters, zen masters, great visionaries ect..) because they are the quintessence of what a conscious man should be.
All this evil in the world is due to spiritual unconsciousness ( the religion of self-interest) and people will not change until they awake spiritually and become more conscious. But the road to a higher consciousness is very loooooooong particularly in Africa where people are still at the survival level.. When people are still worrying about their daily survival they are not interested in transforming their consciousness and doing good for the other. May God SWT ease african and all human pains, amin.

Thanks, Sister. I like your words "The religion of self-interest", "At the survival level...", "wake up spiritually and become more conscious..." it is beautiful. I also agree with you on the concept of "Men's ego and their tendency to dominate have evolved throughout human history....It seems males in other non-human species also tend to dominate and be hostile one another...A male cat, for example, has his own territory by marking it with his urine... he gets angry anf furious when another cat trespaases onto his land....

I sometimes ask myself what is wrong with this region. Why there have been so many conflicts and political disputes for the last 50 years. To be more exact, what is wrong with Somalis, Ethiopians and Eritreans? Why they are fighting either among themselves or against one another?
I have not found any convincing answer for this. It seems to me that we are like a feather in an open air. And we are driven by a foreign wind. Take our artificial borders for example; it was Britain, France and Italy who created them. They gave us flags and new names Ethiopian, Somali, Eritrean, Kenyan, Djiboutian…and we, like sheep, accepted their plans and maps without any questions. The worst was that those who understood this, wanted to focus only on their ethnicity like Somalis did in their war against Ethiopia in 1977…but that was not their own fault because Ethiopia led by her Emperor Hailé managed to take a lion’s share and he swallowed the best and richest parts (in terms of fertile soil,, minerals and domestic and wild animals) of Somali region including Hawd Zone…etc and for this reason, British Somaliland became a stripe of bare mountainous chains and a desert with hot plains on the coast.
All this, I think, was done deliberately by the colonial foreigners but unfortunately, we did not understand their intention. Some may think they (Westerners) were pro-Ethiopians but in a broader sense, they were serving their own interests in this region.
We cannot always live in the past in which our ancestors were hostile to one another. We should open or turn a new page over to live in peace and work on developing our countries.
I have a dream that one day our kids will freely cross borders without fear or visas to go and pay visit to their friends in Asmara, Addis Ababa, Mogadishu and Djibouti…with better railways, better roads and suitable facilities to enjoy and live in peace side by side without any discrimination of ethnicity, religion or language.
Yes, we can!

Continuous outside interference by foreign stakeholders is primary reason; they are the ones holding the key to the stability in our region. It seems that they are not yet ready to reconcile who get what? In other words each foreign power’s national interest is the priority, France together with EU, Britain, US and China. IF you read Wikileaks achieves its not surprising to find out the so called leaders in our region are not really in charge of their destiny.
Former President South African Mr Mandela was asked why Inkatha freedom party and ANC cannot get along an, His answer was there is a 3rd hand that is making it impossible the handshake to occur , meaning the CIA and other stakeholders at the time, here is good lesson for our mediocre leaders to learn and replicate
The case of Somalia is unique, some of us are too quick to blame religious fanatics, seems to be the cheapest excuse,if trend is to ignore that these groups are financed, armed and exported by foreign countries,we are not tackling the real issue. Yes its true that we are lacking strong and brave leaders like Mandela to guide us out of this vicious cycle.

Right!
You forgot regional interference

So life comes from God whereas Death comes from Satan!
Those who serve peace, are serving life. Those who kill people and destroy life, are the true servants of death and its Master; Satan.
In Horn of Africa, we need peacemakers "Nabaddoon" more than warriors "Dagaal-yahan"

Satan using wicked people kills other people, because he cannot do it that by himself, but GOD doesn't need any agent to do it. Kabil was the first corpse of it. If you want to see latest mass corpses, look at what is happening in Syria to day.
In our region, the Baddia people when they see skinny dust twist, that is common in semi-desert area between Djibouti and Ethiopia they point their left small-finger toward it, while saying ALEF, ALEF,... its common believe that the Satan is riding every twist.
If one doesn't believe that Tsunami is not from God here is the trick to control it Faydan in Somali!!!!!!!!!
The dream doesn't need to end up where the humanity begun, in other word the cycle is not complete yet, one needs to strive to accomplish his or her dream.
Why not carry on your dream beyond the cheep tactics of finger point Al-shabaab, Al Shaydaan and Satan. They are all the same.
