Researcher, poet, orator, Omar Macalin is part of the generation of the poets that marked the country the latter times. Omar Macalin was born in 1954
to Hadhagaala (in shinile region). There he began his primary and secondary schooling in 1965. Next he went in 1969 to addis-abeba to finish his secondary schooling. Then he departs to the USSR and Italy where he will follow his university studies and
obtain a master degree.In 1981 he then settle in Djibouti. Omar was lulled early in his childhood by the poems and the songs (buraanbur) of
his mother. In fact, his two parents composed the poetry in somali. Besides, Omar relates with humor the poem that allowed his father to obtain the hand of the woman he loved, Aicha Omar (omar's mum). Macalin Nour writes a poem in
which he evokes among others its cows, its camels, its ewes, his land and his line.
Omar's mum is also no stranger about how to handle and tease around the verb. In the years 80, Omar came back from Europe, unemployed and wanted a direction in his life , his mother sends him a song (buraanbur) in which she urges her son to follow his father footsteps: (
Ma dhabadii abihin baad ka leexateen). Having grown in this very literary atmosphere, it is in 1965 that Omar Macalin writes his
first play "axdi iyo aayaan daro". This is with his high school comrades that he presents this play at Hadhaagale and Diridhabe. During his exile in USSR and in Italy, Omar Macalin wrote many
poems evoking the colonialism "xuub caaro" , "Gamoor" in 1976 the most famous poem of his exile.
This poem comes after the abduction of the bus of the French pupils in 1976.To Djibouti in 1981, Omar Macalin begins a research work that will take some years. This work was devoted to the djiboutian folklore of somali expression. These research conducted on the three sorts of traditional dances (
The folk dances of Zeila: typology and meaning, the nomadic dances and the folklores of the farmers) will be condensed in a not yet published book.
Omar is equally a novelist. In fact he wrote many novels of which some are broadcasted by the RTD ("
gogol-dhaaf" ) .
He also wrote other novels "Hebel yaa qora" and "war miyad ka haysa" and translated many foreign poems and literary works in somali . To his name equally a yet not published novel ......
and the collection of 150 proverbs Somalis. In the musical environment, Omar Macalin is well known. In fact, he composed a lot of songs that the country artists interpret as "Jacaylku igama guuro" sung by the lovely Habiba Abdillahi "Belbelaf" or Suuban interpreted by Omar Aden The religious songs interpreted in the latter times by Omar Aden and by Abdourahman Dandawi, are for the majority of him.
