was wondering if djibouti have institute for mentally handicapped children.
sometime we think that djibouti don't have mentaly handicap kids but i i know is not true.
what about kids with ADD OR ADHD...
i remember when i used to live in djib also there was another problem among the people it was EPILEPSY abd noone knew what it was ,they used say its just the devilin the body cause the persone was shaking.
well i really want to know if kids in our country get help or are just left at home out of the society?

Lena, c pas comme en occident mais surement qu a djibouti ils sont entourés par la famille, moindre des choses.c ce k il y a de mieux,je trouve après pour le suivi medical comme partout tt depends des revenus de la famille.

Adhd is not an illness, it just means the kid is bilaa adab.... In AFrica , his parents would beat him up here the kid gets himself a nice label : adhd (Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder) .....And evryone gets sympathetic towards the spoilt rat.
It's rubbish....

It has nothing to do with mental illnesses or genetical problems affecting health and developement....

Georges Bush is dylexic .....

Dyslexism , Adhd, Add were invented few years ago.... It shows western societies are failling on children...
they can't tell which kid is rude, slow or totally uncontrollable, for this reason they invented these disorders and get pharmaceutical groups to give out pills to kids....

Je trouve que tu es un peu dure avec les enfants qui ont certains handicaps.
Il existe bel et bien des enfants qui souffrent de quelconques problemes mentaux.
C’est vraiment décevant de voir des gens qui croient avoir réponse à tout et qui se permettent
de juger des situations qui ne sont pas leur champ d’expertise.
Il suffit de regarder autour de soi et avec un peu de chance tu verras peu être ce dont je parle..
Ceci dit, j’espère qu’un jour tu n’auras pas ce genre d’enfants.
May Allah gives you healthy kids Insha Allah . I also pray to those who struggle with their sicks kids.

this is the problem all these years we said oh they are just bilaa adab without knowing anything, but let me tell you that this is a serious thing .i have someone in my family that has this case. and trust me she is not billa adab like you say,she cant not focus.and she act bad sometime,well you know the rest so what do you do ?you want her family to beat her up evryday saying she need some dicipline,and make her worst?
becarfull desaxee of what you say i dont think you have any kids and i dont wish you to have kids with mental problems.... but wait if you live in europe you will be ok... unless you just beat them up evryday untill they just lose there mind for good ... or maybe you will change you mind on what you just wrote because those will be your KIDS.

I want to make myself clear , FIrst of all, I hope God will all give us healthy children.
Secondly, If you type in ADHD or DYSLEXIa in wikipedia you will see that there is a controversy paragraph for each of these conditions.
These types of behaviour are controversial within the scientific communities, Every now and often we see articles in newspapers and documentaries on TV that CONTRADICT previous findings on the matter...

The main reason is every scientific knows that behaviour is diverse within all of us, and children who of course have problems to fully understand right from wrong or what behaviour is unacceptable in public places, are categorised as ADHD sufferer....

As we all know, it's not illness, no one is sick, it's jus that the behaviour of the child is somhow uncompatible with those of others.. You dont die if you got ADHD, you'll just get kicked out of school and likely to become a truand..

What I find shocking is that those children are prescribed RITALIN to cure their conditions, leading to some deaths or the kid is drugged at an realy age with a powerful drug that no one knows the side effects on long terms......

We all know that some kids were difficult, parents and families always find a way to deal with them without giving a drug that changes their hormones and their brains.....

All kids cannot be nice, polite and focused, they will ne troublesome children who will need more attention from teachers and parents, no need to declare a state of emergency or invent nice scientific names...

PLEASE don't confuse ADHD/ADD/Dyslexia with MENTAL handicaps.. Thank you

This discussion is opened again just because we do need to update our views on certain problems we face everyday.

Now, it is sad that we never accept the idea that certain diseases or psychiatric disorder are only associated to certain race or individuals. There is some children affect by ADHD (Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder) is not something that was just invented and same goes for dyslexia. I really don’t know what a lot of Djiboutian has a issue understand all disease are only from the “white” individual or others individuals. There is lack of information given to the parents about those types of disorder.

Again, I do not have the knowledge on Djibouti health system on this. However, there is something we could do for the children affected by ADHD. There is the pharmaceutical treatment where certain drugs could be taken by the children to control the disorder and to help the child regain his attention towards his task and his behavior. But, it is not the only option that parents have because some of the drugs can slow the child growth and much other adverse effect.

Parents and the support of family are the most important aspect for children affected by ADHD. Some percentages of children affected loose this disorder near adult age and some may carry this to adulthood. Support group from expert and experiences staff also helps the child to understand his disorder and learn certain things to help him cope with this social environment.

Ma chere Fluid Je peux te prouver une chose et en tant qu' enseignante dans les 2 systems USA/DJIBOUTI, un eleve qui se leve en pleine classe et qui commence a saute de chaise en chaise....ou qui fait la roue ..devant toute la classe?..OMG..On a pas ces foutaises a Djibouti..Jamais rencontrer ce comportement Les ADHD qui ne prennent pas leur medicaments sont INCONTROLABLES..Donc S il y en avait a Djibouti?..on allait le constater...

In The School System ADHD/ADD kids are called "special aid student" ..(I hate that label.).they have difficulty following instructions and keeping attention on work or play activities. Homework lost...disorganized..there desk is a mess..1/4 of the test is done..ect...some of them become even violent when they get furstrated . Once these behaviors are gathered, the parents will decide whether to take the child to a specialist or not. Most of the time they refuse to take any further actions and the the kid fail.
But if the parent accepts the school system develop "The Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan" which consists accommodations such as homework help, special classroom seating, extra time on tests, and other school help..Too much for a teacher in Djibouti who does not have all of these resources..

Special Ed. students not special aid ..sorry Fluid
Par contre Section 504 or EIP provide Special Aid Services which guides parents/teachers through the Special Education Process.

Dyslexia and ADHD are real conditions!
I know very smart, well-balanced and polite kids who struggle big time with those.
They need more time, attention and encouragement, you can go a long way with those.
